8 players from DTS U11 at South African Futsal tournament
8 players from DTS U11 together with Coach Wieland and Coach Guido as well as some parents, geared up for a trip to Stellenbosch from 10-15 May to play a couple of matches against teams in Stellenbosch and Cape Town.
After a long trip with an overnight stay in Noordoewer the team arrived in Stellenbosch on Thursday evening.
Friday morning the team went to inspect the Stellenbosch Academy of Sports, a high performance Centre with Hotel where the Springbok Sevens Rugby team has his base. After that the boys had a 2 hours training session in the Markoetter Indoor Astro Turf of Paul Roos Gymnasium. The afternoon saw 2 friendly matches played outdoors, 5-a-side. Stellenbosch Community Team was beaten 7-0 which had the boys raise to a high spirit. Our host’s team of coach Jose was the second opponent, the Stellenbosch Football Academy, a team of 11-13 year old players who have won the Stellenbosch League twice in a row. Our boys fought hard, but lost 2-6 mainly due to physical defecits.
The next day was Indoor Astro again with a small futsal tournament of 4 teams. DTS Boys finished unbeaten with 1 win (against Kayalandi 2) and 2 draws (against Stellenbosch Football Academy & Kayalandi 1). Then it was time to drive to Cape Town to the Montague Indoor Arena, where the teams had a 1 hour coaching session by Brazilian coaches who focus purely on technic. The final match practice of the afternoon was against Besa Football Academy with 3x 15minute Futsal match. After the second half it was 1-1 and the winning goal was in the air, but Besa struck with a free kick and took the lead. Therafter moral was down and the game ended 1-4 against a team with U11 & U13 Players.
The day was ended with a great Sundowner at the shore of Blouberg Strand and driving back to Stellenbosch. The next it was time to say good bye and a short visit to the V&A Waterfront the team drove back to Windhoek with an overnight stop in Springbok and arrived safely in Windhoek on Monday afternoon.
